The Nexon Computer Museum is a museum on Jeju Island, South Korea. It opened on July 27, 2013. It is known as one of the first permanent museum in South Korea for computer history and digital interactive entertainment culture.[1] In 2014, the museum houses 6,300 items (3,800 of which are on display) including computers, video game consoles, arcades, and software. The principle of Nexon Co. Ltd.'s museum is to archive, preserve and present both the culture and history of such technology. The museum's collection also includes retro Korean video game console and computers developed and/or distributed by Samsung, Daewoo, and Goldstar (now LG). Nexon's founder Jay Kim, one of Korea's tech billionaires,[2] is a hands-on adviser for the museum.

General

The museum is a 4-story building which is located on the Nexon campus in Shin Jeju, Jeju City.[3] The museum is displaying one of the original Apple I computer in working condition, which were purchased on June 15, 2012, from Sotheby's for $374,500.[4]

Projects

The museum also aims to research and archive MMO games, which is one of the strongest video game genres in South Korea. In 2014, Nexon Computer Museum restored and preserved the earliest (year 1996) version of graphical MMORPG Kingdom of Winds, which is also available to play online.[5]
