The New Haven Fire Department (NHFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the city of New Haven, Connecticut, United States. The New Haven Fire Department currently serves a population of over 130,000 people living in 19 square miles of land.
The New Haven Fire Department is currently the second largest fire department in the state after Hartford. In 2014, the New Haven Fire Department responded to 28,274 emergency calls (EMS - 19,973 / Fire - 6,476). The New Haven Fire Department is the busiest in the state for fires [1]
The New Haven Fire Departments General Fund Budget for 2015 is $30,072,251 and NHFD's Capital Budget for 2015 is $1,100,000.

Tweed New Haven Airport
- Tweed New Haven Airport is a regional airport owned by the City but operated by a private company. It is in the Morris Cove Section of New Haven and borders the neighboring town of East Haven. All fire protection and crash rescue service was provided by New Haven up until the mid 90's by Fox 1, that operated out of the same fire house as Engine 16. Fire Protection was then transferred to the company operating the airport who built a Fire Station on the airport grounds and purchased their own ARFF Trucks. Fox 1 was also transferred to the Airport Management Company at that time where it remained in storage as a spare until 2012 when it was returned to the city. Fox 1 was then completely refurbished by the NHFD Shops and currently serves as Car 44 the departments front line foam / Purple K unit. Currently operated are two Airport Crash Rescue Units (1 active - 1 spare/reserve) cross staffed by airport maintenance personnel during the day time hours Monday - Saturday with fire protection being supplemented by both the New Haven Fire Department and East Haven Fire Department for major incidents. Both Departments along with the airport fire department conduct a large scale mass casualty drill every two years together. US Airways is currently the only commercial airline operating out of tweed, offering daily flights from New Haven to Philadelphia. There are also many private conventional and jet aircraft operated from Tweed. Tweed New Haven Airport is also a popular destination during the Yale University graduation every year, where you can find many corporate and private jets at the airport. Air Force 1 has landed at Tweed several times over the years when presidents like John F Kennedy, Bill Clinton, George W Bush Along with many others were visiting Yale and the southern Connecticut area, the most recent being Barack Obama who landed in Air Force 1, which was utilizing Boeing 757 at the time do to the airports shorter runway, President Obama has also landed and departed Tweed on Marine 1 which consisted of a convoy of Sikorsky VH-3D "Sea King" Helicopters, Sikorsky VH-60N "White Hawk" Helicopters and Boeing VH-22 "Ospreys" Tilt-Rotor Aircraft from Marine Helicopter Squadron 1 (HMX-1).
