New Garden Friends School (NGFS) is an independent Quaker school in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. A coeducational school, it offers classes from age three through 12th grade, educating around 285 students.[1] The school was established in August 1971, with just 60 students, in the basement of Persimmon Grove AME Church, and has since expanded to three campuses.[2]

New Garden Friends School seeks to be an inclusive, innovative educational community guided by Quaker beliefs and committed to honoring and developing each person's gifts.

Program

In the 1980s, the school reported success in a "challenge education" program in which high school students spent part of each day working on challenge projects, including both guided and independent projects.[3]

New Garden Friends School integrates Quaker principles into its curriculum by collaborating with community organizations. In September 2009 the school announced a collaboration with the national Axis of Hope Center for International Conflict Prevention based at Boston University. The school implemented and contributes to the Axis of Hope curriculum.[4][5]

Sport

The school offers teams for basketball, flag football, soccer, golf, volleyball, and cross country. On varsity levels, and co-ed teams for the lower grades.
