Local geography

War memorial

There is one gas station, a mini-mart, a church, and a Civil War memorial at the intersection of Industrial Parkway and U.S. Route 42. There are currently three distinct housing developments in New California. One contains smaller 1970's era houses, one contains large 1970's houses, and a new one contains modest to expensive priced new builds. The original U.S. Route 33 (now Columbus-Marysville Road), ran through the community before moving in 1969 to its present four-lane highway located a half mile to the north.

Post office

The New California Post office was established on January 7, 1850, but was discontinued on May 14, 1904. The mail service is now sent through the Plain City branch.[5]

Historical marker

Back of marker

On September 19, 2009, a new Ohio historical marker was dedicated in New California. The marker symbolizes the fact that 367 men from Jerome Township joined the Union cause, giving it one of the highest per capita rates for service in the nation during the American Civil War, and also the fact that seventeen of those veterans are buried in the community's small cemetery.[6]
