NerdWallet.com

NerdWallet.com is a personal finance website which is branded as helping consumers make money decisions. The site builds data-driven tools and crunches numbers. Categories of coverage include education, finance, health, investing, and shopping.

History

NerdWallet was founded in August 2009 by former Wall Street analyst Tim Chen and former JPMorgan Chase option trader Jacob Gibson.[1] Chen started NerdWallet while looking for a new credit card, creating a spreadsheet of 1,000 credit cards. Chen then helped others shop for credit cards.

In March 2014, NerdWallet hired former LinkedIn VP Dan Yoo to join the company as the chief operating officer. He replaced co-founder Gibson, who shifted to an advisory role at the company.[2] At the same time, Flo Thinh, who built the recruiting team at Zynga joined NerdWallet as the VP of Talent. In July 2014, NerdWallet announced Ken Shuman as its first VP of Communications. Shuman comes from Trulia, a real estate site he helped build into a national consumer brand. [3]

Financial operations

NerdWallet is profitable and independent, with no outside investors.

Reputation

CNNMoney listed NerdWallet among its Top 20 Best Money Sites in 2010.[4] Also in 2010, The New York Times recommended NerdWallet to readers.[5]

The Wall Street Journal, NBC, and other news outlets have included NerdWallet in their coverage. Consumer advocates Liz Weston and Clark Howard have recommended the company's products as well.
