Nelsonophryne is a small genus of microhylid frogs.
The type species Nelsonophryne aterrima was described by Albert Günther as Glossostoma aterrimum in 1901. The genus Glossostoma was then synonymised to Microhyla by Hampton Wildman Parker but later resurrected. Since Glossostoma was a junior homonym of a flatworm genus, a replacement name Nelsonophryne (Nelson frogs) was given by Darrel Frost in 1987.[1]
Species
Amphibian Species of the World considers Nelsonophryne to be a valid genus with two species.[1] In the classification provided by Amphibiaweb, the species are included in Ctenophryne.[2]
- Nelsonophryne aequatorialis (Peracca, 1904).
- Nelsonophryne aterrima (Günther, 1901).
