In policy debate, the Negative (NEG) is the team which negates the resolution and contends with the affirmative team.

The negative team speaks second and second to last. They give four speeches:

• First negative constructive (1NC)
• Second negative constructive (2NC)
• First negative rebuttal (1NR)
• Second negative rebuttal (2NR)
