Neal, Kentucky

Neal, Kentucky is an extinct hamlet located 3 miles south of Catlettsburg on old U.S. 23. Most of this former hamlet is owned by Marathon Oil and is a part of their Catlettsburg Refinery. Neal was once populated by a sum of 200 residents but now is virtually non existent as Marathon's Refinery has purchased most residential homes that were once at Neal. KY 757, previously known as U.S. 23, dead ends at Neal, as Marathon purchased the road from the Kentucky Department of Highways and took over maintenance in 1999. Very little remains of this once thriving hamlet occupied mostly by Ashland Oil(now Marathon) employees. Neal is located at approximately 38°19′30″N 82°35′00″W / 38.32500°N 82.58333°W in southeastern Boyd County, across the Big Sandy River from West Virginia.
