Navaikulam is a village in Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala, India.[2]

The term “navaya” means “the place where Vedic scriptures are taught”. Therefore, it is believed that Navaikulam was an ancient center of excellence and wisdom. The Sankaranarayana temple is situated here.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Navaikulam had a population of 27703 with 13084 males and 14619 females.[2]

Sankaranarayana temple

The Sankaranarayana temple at Navaikulam in Chirayinkil Taluk of Trivandrum district is located by the side of National Highway 47 between Kallambalam and Parippally (about 45 km north of Trivandrum). Set amidst a vast campus, the temple enshrines the syncretic image of Sankaranarayana, whose left half shows the attributes of Vishnu and the right half that of Siva, this is believed to be the biggest Shankaranarayana statue in standing position. It is one of the most famous pilgrim center in Thiruvananthapuram district. Near the temple there is a big pond.

Vivekodayam Grandhasala is a leading library in 28th Mile, Navaikulam, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. This cultural institution was established in 1950. Vivekodayam Library is affiliated to the Kerala State Library Council. As per Library council norms, this library is Grade-A, which is the highest in the hierarchical scale to grade the libraries under the Kerala State Library Council. The Vivekodayam library holds a very large collection of books on almost all subjects. The library has played a vital role in the educational and cultural development of Navaikulam village. Libraray plays a vital role in life such a way that periodically conducts education seminars, career guidance, and various competitions during various occasions.
