"Natural" by S Club 7 was released as a single on 11 September 2000. It is a slow R&B oriented ballad with Rachel Stevens singing lead vocals. The track was written by Cathy Dennis, Jean Fredenucci, Norma Ray and Andrew Todd. It is an English cover of French singer Norma Ray's late 90s hit Tous Les Maux D'Amour,[1] both which sample Gabriel Fauré's Pavane.
Song information
Natural, S Club 7's fifth single, features Rachel Stevens as lead vocals. It describes love for an individual as a natural occurrence.
There are also three different versions of the song. The album version, included on the original release of 7, features a R&B style production. The single version is mixed with heavier pop music themes, including the use of a vocoder, and the male vocals are more predominant. The video version is identical to the single version, except it features extra adlib vocals from Rachel. The video version has never had a commercial release.
Music video
Unlike previous music videos "Reach" and "S Club Party", it does not involve a narrative. Instead, the group is initially shown relaxing on a tropical beach. The video progress to show Paul, Jon, and Bradley fish in the water as the girls observe from the beach while sunbathing. Several waterfall montages are used. The video ends with the group relaxing around a campfire.
There are two different edits of the music video. The second version replaces footage of Rachel on the beach with Paul, Jon, and Bradley collecting coconuts from the trees. Close ups and dance routines are prominently featured. Overall screen time focused on Rachel is reduced to feature the other members. It is unknown which version was intended as the original video.
