National Utility Contractors Association

National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) is a trade organization representing the underground utility industry in the USA.

Founded in 1964, NUCA is the USA's largest trade association for the underground utility construction industry.[1] The association represents contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers involved in water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunications, site work, and other segments of the industry across the country.

In the late 1980s NUCA publicly criticized the government Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) saying that they had an "antagonistic approach", did "little to improve safety conditions within the industry", and that OSHA officials were "out to get" contractors.[2] However the organization advocated for safety in construction projects, for example urging contractors to use protective equipment to prevent excavation cave-ins in 2004.[3] In December 2004 NUCA signed a two-year alliance with OSHA for the joint delivery of safety training.[4]
