The National Institute of Amateur Radio is an amateur radio club based in Hyderabad, Telangana in India. NIAR coordinates with local governmental and non-governmental agencies in the area of emergency communications using ham radio as a tool.

Amateur (ham) Radio is a hobby. It is an activity of self learning, inter-communication & technical investigation carried on the duly authorized persons (i.e. Amateur Radio Operators) for a personal aim and without pecuniary interest. There are over 3 million people all over the world who pursue this activity in their free time. India has approximately 20,000 licenced amateur radio operators.
