National Highways 86 (NH 86) is a National Highway in India that connects Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh with Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. The total length of NH86 runs to 674 km (419 mi)[1] Starting from National Highway 3 in Dewas it runs northwards and ends at Kanpur at NH 2.
Route
Uttar Pradesh: Mahoba, Kabrai, Maudaha, Bharuwa, Hamirpur, Ghatampur and Kanpur.[2]
Madhya Pradesh: Dewas, Ashta, Sehore, Bhopal, Raisen, Sanchi, Vidisha, Gyarspur, Rahtgarh, Sagar, Karapur, Banda, Dalpatpur, Shahgarh, Hirapur, Dargawan, Gulganj, Chhatarpur and Malhara.
Length
In Kanpur it covers 25 km then it reaches Ghatampur where it covers 40 km to reach Hamirpur and then it reaches Mahoba where it covers 86 km. Ghatampur to Mahoba via Hamirpur is arguably the worst highway road in India. The road is full of plateaus and small mountains rather than potholes. Politicians usually avoid this road and prefer helicopters to travel. This road has been the subject in the first episode of Discovery Channel's "World's Toughest Trucker".
The stretch from Sagar to Rahatgarh till its junction with NH86A does not have much of a road surface and best avoided if traveling in a vehicle with low ground clearance.
