National Astronomy Meeting
The National Astronomy Meeting is an annual meeting of astronomers in the United Kingdom. It is one of the largest professional astronomy conferences in Europe.[1] It is affiliated with, and sponsored by, the Royal Astronomical Society.
History
The National Astronomy Meetings developed out of the 'out-of-town' RAS meetings that first took place in 1948. They have been running under the name "National Astronomy Meeting" since the early 1990.[2]
Format
The meeting normally consists of:
- parallel sessions over the course of around 4 days
- The annual UK Solar Physics (UKSP) meeting.[1]
- Town meeting by the Royal Astronomical Society, STFC and the UK Space Agency.[1]
- Presentations of the annual awards of the Royal Astronomical Society.[1]
