Nat Gertler (born April 30, 1965) is an American writer who is known for his comics and books about comics.[6] Gertler is an authority on the subject of Schulz's Peanuts,[7][8][9] and runs an Internet site that sells memorabilia associated with the comic strip.[10][11] He was nominated twice for the Eisner Award, which is the comic book industry's equivalent to the Oscar Awards,[3][12] based on his work entitled The Factor about an unseen superhero.[2][4] Gertler is also notable for founding in 2004 an annual 24-hour-long challenge to cartoonists to produce a "24-page comic book".[13][14][15] In addition, Gertler has written prose fiction, technical writing, television episodes and a video game script, as well as titles in the Complete Idiot's Guides series of books.[16] He founded a specialist publishing firm called About Comics[16] which publishes properties such as The Weasel Patrol, The Factor, Licensable BearTM, and The Liberty Project.[12][13] Gertler's script anthologies Panel One and Panel Two were highly recommended in USA Today for persons interested in learning how to write a comic book.[17]

Gertler's 2010 The Peanuts Collection received positive reviews in the Los Angeles Times,[1] The Boston Globe,[18] USA Today and others.[19][20] The Chicago Sun-Times described it as a "slipcovered museum collection" filled with "treasures",[19] and the Christian Science Monitor described it as "a gold mine of Peanuts memorabilia and removable inserts".[21]
Personal life
Gertler is a graduate of Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. His sister Brie Gertler is a professor of philosophy. He lives in Camarillo, California, with his wife and two children.
