Nanning-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway , also known as the Southern Guangzhou high-speed railway or South Canton High Speed Railway, connecting China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region capital of Nanning and Guangdong Province's capital, Guangzhou. The high-speed railway started construction was November 9, 2008. Nanning to Wuzhou was completed by April 18, 2014, opening to traffic along the full route on December 26, 2014. The project by proposed by the now defunct Ministry of Railways and Guangxi, Guangdong government joint venture, with a total investment of about 41 billion RMB.[1] Nanning-Guangzhou railway is expected to spur economic development, increase staff mobility across the Guangxi and western Guangdong regions.

Route

Railway travels mostly along the Pearl River Delta's Xi River valley. From Nanning it starts alongside the same route of the Liuzhou–Nanning Intercity Railway to Binyang County's Litang, then eastward through Guigang, crossing the Yu River, over Guiping, Pingnan, Tengxian to Wuzhou. After entering Guangdong it passes Yunan, Yunfu to Zhaoqing to Guangzhou South Railway Station. A total length of 576 km (358 mi), of which 349 km (217 mi) in Guangxi, Guangdong territory 227 km (141 mi). Twenty-three stations will be places along the route, however not all will service passengers.

Technical Standards

Electrified double tracked standard construction for high-speed passenger and fast freight, with an operating speed of 200 km but the design allows for speeds of 250 km.

Construction History

Long Term Development

According to plans, Nanning-Guangzhou Railway will have a direct access to ASEAN Trans-Asian Railway network. That will allow train services from Guangzhou, via Guangxi could go to Laos, Thailand, Singapore and other countries. This is a "long-term railway network plan," the focus of the project. This railway is capable of forming one of the most convenient and most rapid rail transport corridors bringing southern China and the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone more closely together with the Pearl River Delta region. It will become a leading international transportation avenue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade between China and ASEAN countries. After completion of future projects, passengers could travel directly from Guangzhou to Vietnam, the final composition of the Trans-east program is to connect to Singapore.[8]
