Namugoga Solar Power Station is a proposed 50 MW solar power plant in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community.[1]
Location
The power station is located in Namugoga Village, Busiro County, Wakiso District, in the Central Region of Uganda. This location lies near the township of Kajjansi, along the road between Kampala and Entebbe, approximately 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) by road, south of Kampala, the country's capital and largest city.[2] The estimated coordinates of Namugoga Solar Power Station are:0°10'22.0"N, 32°34'05.0"E (Latitude:0.172778; Longitude:32.568056).[3]
Overview
When completed Namugoga Power Station will have installed capacity of 50 Megawatts, to be sold directly to Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), the sole purchaser. The power will be evacuated from the power station to a substation in Kisubi, for integration into the national electricity grid.[1]
Developers
A consortium of two companies, one local and the other international, are charged with development of the solar power station: (a) Solar Power for Africa, is a Ugandan solar power equipment vendor[4] (b) Naanovo Energy Inc., is a Canadian alternative energy developer.[5]
