Nagore Esmail Mohammed Hanifa (25 December 1925 - 8 April 2015) was Tamil Muslim Politician and a Playback Singer.[1][2] He was member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He was called as "Isai Murasu"[3] (இசை முரசு) which means musical drum.
Politics and Films
Hanifa sang so many Muslim Devotional Songs which are used during festivals and marriages. Hanifa’s rousing anthems boosted the fortunes of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from the 1930s. His "Oadi varugiran Udhayasooriyan", "Kallakkudi konda Karunanidhi vaazhgave", "Nee engae senrai Anna" and "Azhaikkinrar Anna" are still used by the DMK to raise party morale.[3] He was a leading propagandist of DMK for past five decades.[4] He also sang for a few films including Paava Mannippu in which he sang the song "Yellorum Kondaduvom" along with T. M. Soundararajan, ‘Un mathama’ in Raman Abdullah and also in Sembaruthi. His song Iraivanidam Kaiyenthungal is very famous among all the Tamils.[2]
He was also the member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Council in 1970's which is defunct now.[5][6] He died on 8 April 2015, aged 89.[1]
