Nader Pourmand is an Iranian-American biomolecular engineer. He is associate professor of biomolecular engineering and director of the Genome Sequencing Center at the University of California at Santa Cruz Baskin School of Engineering. Pourmand also leads the Biosensors and Bioelectrical Technology Group at the State of California's Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS).
Pourmand also leads the Biosensors and Bioelectrical Technology Group at the UCSC Baskin School of Engineering. The lab's primary goal is to further develop biological and electrical technologies that aid in the study of genes and proteins.[1] Pourmand and his team hold seventeen patents and publish in dozens of peer-reviewed scientific journals.[2]
While at Stanford University (Stanford Genome Technology Center) between 1999 and 2008, Pourmand co-founded and directed the "Stanford startup." Xagros Technologies, Inc., a developer of technologies for genome profiling.[3] In 2001, Pourmand won the second place $25,000 prize for Xagros Technologies in the Stanford Entrepreneur's Challenge.[4]
Aside from publications through UCSC, Pourmand has been published in more than sixty scientific journals including the Oxford University Press,[5] Cancer Research,[6] PLoS ONE [7] and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.[8]
