NSW Sport and Recreation, an agency of the New South Wales Government, is responsible for assisting the people of New South Wales to participate in sport and recreation, in order to improve personal and community well being.[2]

Administratively, the agency is a division within the Office of Communities, which is part of the Department of Education and Communities. The Acting Executive Director of NSW Sport and Recreation is Paul Doorn, who reports to Donna Rygate, the Chief Executive Officer, Office of Communities. Ultimately, the agency is responsible to the Minister for Sport and Recreation, presently the Hon. Stuart Ayres MP.

History

Whilst the agency was formed in 2011 with its current title, its history goes back to at least 1997 as the New South Wales Department of Sport and Recreation (until 2003); and has since been reincarnated as the New South Wales Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation (2003 to 2006), the Department of the Arts, Sport and Recreation (2006 to 2009), and Communities NSW (2009 to 2011).

Commercial Services

As part of its commitment to the people of NSW, Sport and Recreation manages 11 Centres around the State as well as The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Sport and Recreation Centres offer people of all ages the opportunity to participate in well-planned recreational and sporting activities in a residential environment at an economical cost.
