NOS Journaal (English: NOS News) is the broadcast supplier of news to Dutch public radio and television. It is part of the Nederlandse Omroep Stichting.
The 'NOS Journaal' editorial team consists of seven editors-in-chief, led by the chief editor, currently Marcel Gelauff, who took over from Hans Laroes in July 2011.[1]
Television
On television, NOS Journaal bulletins can be seen on channels of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting, the Dutch public broadcaster. Its flagship 25-minute bulletin airs at 8:00pm every night on NPO 1, formerly Nederland 1, - the most watched news programme in the Netherlands, with an audience of around 1.5 to two million viewers daily (around a fifth of the market share around that hour).
On weekdays, short daytime bulletins are broadcast every hour between 7am and 5pm on Nederland 1 with hourly repeats on NPO 2, formerly Nederland 2, and the digital TV channel NOS Journaal 24. Extended bulletins air at 1pm, 6pm and 10pm with a late night bulletin also broadcast at around midnight. Fewer daytime bulletins are broadcast during the weekend.
The nightly 8pm programme along with weekday daytime and weekend late night bulletins are also simulcast (usually on a time delay) with the Dutch language international television station BVN.
NOS Journaal op 3
A youth-oriented news service for NPO 3, formerly Nederland 3, entitled NOS Journaal op 3 (NOS Journaal on 3) was launched in January 2007. As of September 2008, there are three bulletins - the first two at 7:20pm and 8:20pm consist of 60 second updates whilst the main bulletin, aired usually between 10:00pm and midnight, runs for eight minutes, consisting of another 60 second update and two or three reports on the main national and international news, presented in a more fast-paced format.

Radio
NOS Journaal can also be heard on the radio channels of the Publieke Omroep. Short bulletins are broadcast on the top of every hour along with extended broadcasts on Radio 1 throughout the day. The latter broadcasts were formerly known as Het Radio-1 Journaal, but were rebranded as NOS Journaal (Radio) in December 2005.
The NOS Journaal has a distinctive news tune, which is aired to mark the beginning or the ending of a broadcast or timeslot. It was composed by Jeroen Kuitenbrouwer.
