Myprotein is a British online retailer and manufacturer of sports nutrition products and bodybuilding supplements. Founded in 2004 by Oliver Cookson[5][6] in Stockport, Greater Manchester, its portfolio comprises of several websites ranging from sports nutrition, weight management and vitamins to health and beauty.
Myprotein first started ship overseas in 2004,[7] then in 2010 it launched five localised websites in Germany, France, Ireland, Italy and Spain.[8] As of 2015 it has websites targeting a more locations, including; France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, United States, Poland, and Switzerland. In total it ships to over 40 countries worldwide.[9]
History
Myprotein was established in 2004 by Oliver Cookson in his bedroom with a £500 overdraft. He used his website development abilities combined with his interest in fitness and sports nutrition to form the Myprotein business.[10][11] and was later acquired in June 2011 by The Hut Group.[12] Most of the 1700+ products sold by Myprotein are manufactured by contract packers and goods are shipped from their warehouse located in Warrington.[13]
Sponsorships
The brand sponsors athletes ranging from all different types of competitive fields, including Terry Hollands (World's Strongest Man finalist), Daz Ball (IFBB Pro Body Builder), Sean Conway (Endurance Adventurer), Nina Ross (UKBFF British Championship winner) and Julia Hubbard (British Natural Figure Champion).[14]
Myprotein also sponsor Professional Rugby League Club St Helens RLFC [15] and Professional Football Club Burnley F.C. [16]
Awards & recognition
Myprotein have earned several accolades and distinctions since its foundation. In 2007, it was voted Young Company of the Year at the prestigious Growing Business Awards, held by Real Business in association with Lloyds Bank and supported by the CBI.[17]
In 2009 the company ranked 21st in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list, which recognizes Britain's 100 private businesses with the fastest growing profits.[18] Additionally, in 2009, Myprotein® won the Regional Award for the Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year for the North West of England at the National Business Awards.[19]
