Myles Hippolyte (born 9 November 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays in the Scottish Championship for Livingston as a forward. He is a product of the Brentford Academy.

Career

Brentford

A forward, Hippolyte began his career as a schoolboy at Harrow Youth League side Westway Youth in London. He also had brief spells at Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Reading.[1] He joined the youth ranks at League One side Brentford in 2010, playing in the same generation as Josh Clarke, Tyrell Miller-Rodney and Joe Maloney.[2] After playing for the U16 team during the 2010/11 season, Hippolyte was offered a scholarship deal in the summer of 2011. In his first season as a scholar, Hippolyte was part of the youth side which advanced to the fourth round of the 2011/12 FA Youth Cup.[3] Hippolyte scored prolifically for the youth team, topping the goalscoring charts in both his seasons as a scholar.[4]

Hippolyte made four pre-season friendly appearances for the Development Squad in the summer of 2012, scoring in matches versus Boussu Dour Borinage and Maidenhead United.[5][6] Hippolyte's final appearance for the club came on 9 May 2013, when he played the full 90 minutes of the Development Squad's 5–2 defeat to Uxbridge in the 2013 Middlesex Senior Charity Cup Final.[7] He scored in each of the Bees' earlier games in the competition, against Staines Lammas[8] and Hanworth Villa.[9] Hippolyte was released at the end of the 2012/13 season, having failed to receive a call into the first team squad during his three years with the club.[2] Looking back in October 2014 on his time with the Bees, Hippolyte said "Off the pitch I was slack. I was late to training and wasn’t switched on enough. It was the worst possible outcome because if it was due to lack of ability I could’ve accepted it".[1]

Southall (loan)

Hippolyte joined Spartan South Midlands League Division One side Southall on a work experience loan deal on 11 January 2013.[10] He scored on his debut versus London Lions the following day, netting a late equaliser in a 2–2 draw.[11] Hippolyte put in a man of the match performance in a 2–1 Middlesex Premier Cup extra time quarter-final[12] win over Ashford Town (Middlesex) Reserves on 21 January.[13] His second and final goal for the club came in a 2–0 win over Kings Langley on 5 March, picking up another man of the match award.[14][15] Hippolyte returned to Brentford when his loan expired, having scored two goals in four appearances.[16]

Return to Southall

After unsuccessful trials at Cambridge United,[17] Blackburn Rovers,[18] Oxford United,[19] Charlton Athletic[20] and York City, Hippolyte returned to Southall in November 2013. He made one appearance in a 0–0 league draw with Arlesey Town Reserves on 16 November.[21] He made a further appearance towards the end of the 2013/14 season, playing in a 0–0 draw with Risborough Rangers on 1 May 2014.[21]

Tamworth

Hippolyte joined Conference Premier side Tamworth on trial in November 2013.[22] Awarded the number 36 shirt, Hippolyte signed non-contract terms and made his debut for the club in a 1–0 Birmingham Senior Cup first round win over Coleshill Town on 19 November, starting the match and being brought off for Troy Wallen.[23] After further training with the club, Hippolyte was called into the squad for an FA Trophy match versus Boston United on 14 December, but remained an unused substitute.[24] He departed after the club decided not to offer him a contract.

Hayes & Yeading United

Hippolyte joined Conference South side Hayes & Yeading United on 31 December 2013.[25] He made his debut in a 3–1 defeat to Concord Rangers on 11 January 2014, coming on as a half time substitute for Frankie Merrifield.[26] In a period hit by postponements due to the weather, Hippolyte managed just one further appearance, playing an hour of the reserve team's 8–0 win over St Albans City Reserves on 20 January.[27] He departed the club shortly afterwards.[28]

Burnham

In late January 2014, Hippolyte signed for Southern League Premier Division strugglers Burnham. He scored on his debut, netting the opener in a 1–1 draw with Bashley on 25 January.[29] He made it two in two games the following Tuesday, scoring in a 3–2 defeat to St Albans City.[30] After a lean patch, Hippolyte scored another two goals in two games in March, scoring in defeats to AFC Totton and Weymouth.[31][32] His final appearance came in a 2–1 victory over Corby Town on 12 April.[33] Hippolyte scored four goals in 14 games for the Blues.

Livingston

On 10 July 2014, Hippolyte signed for Scottish Championship side Livingston on a one-year deal, after impressing manager John McGlynn while on trial.[34] He had been recommended to the club by Lee Bullen, who had been impressed with Hippolyte while on trial at Sheffield Wednesday.[1] That evening, he celebrated his signing by providing an assist for goalscorer Kyle Jacobs in a 1–1 pre-season friendly draw with Forfar Athletic.[35] Assigned the number 11 shirt, Hippolyte's competitive debut for the club (the first professional appearance of his career) came in a Scottish Challenge Cup first round match versus Queen of the South on 26 July 2014.[36] With the score at 2–2, Hippolyte came on as a 70th minute substitute for Gary Glen.[36] In the extra time period, Hippolyte scored his first competitive goal for the club in an eventual 4–3 win.[36] Hippolyte scored his second goal for the club on 20 August with a solo effort against Hearts in the second round of the Scottish Challenge Cup at Almondvale, a game which Livingston won 4-1.[37] Two games later, Hippolyte scored his third goal for the club with a 119th-minute winner in a 1-0 Scottish League Cup second round victory over Queen of the South.[38] He scored again on 6 September, netting an extra time winner against Peterhead, to send Livi to the semi-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.[39] The strike took his tally to four goals in 8 games.[40] He continued in a substitute role for most of the season,[41] failing to score again until capping a fourth successive start with a free kick in a 1-1 league draw with Rangers on 15 April 2015.[42] He scored again in the following game, with what proved to be a consolation in a 3-1 defeat to Hibernian.[40]

International career

Hippolyte who is of Grenadian descent, is one of a handful of players the Grenada Football Association is trying to recruit ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Puerto Rico in June 2015.[43]

Personal life

Hippolyte's father's cousin is former footballer and current manager Johnson Hippolyte.[44] He attended Twyford High School.[1]
