History

Mylavaram has a rich history of Zamindari ancestry which has contributed immensely for rural upliftment. Shri. S.V. Sudhakara Rao, Chairman & Founder Family member of Sri Venkateswara Swamy vari Devasthanam, Dwaraka Tirumala, W.G. District; a scion of the erstwhile Mylavaram Rajas, is today an important factor to reckon with in the area. He has helped the rural people to such a great extent through his many donations of Land & Buildings. Having started a Trust in the name of his Father, Late Raja S.V.R.G. Narasimha Rao Charitable Trust, he has brought about a change in the outlook of people through subsidised qualitative education by establishing a Degree & a Junior College and also donating land & funds liberally for a High School. This family has single handedly brought about a dramatic improvement in the lives of the common people by donating land for the Bus Stand, Police Station, Block Development Office, Fire Station, Library, High School, Government Junior College, etc. Since 2008, the Trust has also been actively involved in improving the hygiene & living standards of the people in the mandal. A Reverse Osmosis water plant was started & pure drinking water is being supplied at a minimal cost of Re. 0.25 per Liter. Having tied up with Sankara Hospital, the trust is conducting screenings & eye checkups every weekend and is also enabling Operations free of cost. He built a kalyana mandapam named "sri venkateswara swamy vaari kalyana mandapam".

Mylavaram is famous for its rich culture and heritage in the pre-independence days. Zamindars of mylavaram are lovers of art. Till today the fort of Mylavaram exists in the heart of the town. The current Scion, Shri. S.V. Sudhakara Rao still resides in the very same Fort along with his 2 sons & their families.

The town contains an Engineering College named "Lakireddy Balireddy Engineering College". And a kalyana mandapam apart from "Venkateswara Swamy vaari Kalyana Mandapam", named "Chalavadi Mallikharjuna Rao Rajeswari Gaarla Kalyana Mandapam".The great singer khaja is born here.
