My Crazy Girlfriend is an American pop and hip hop band from Los Angeles, California. The group's song Go F**K Yourself reached #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in 2014.[3]
History
My Crazy Girlfriend was formed in 2012 by Myah Marie, Bennett Armstrong, Justyn Armstrong, and Cosmo, all of whom had music careers prior to forming the group.[1]
Bennett and Justyn Armstrong are fraternal twins, sons of a Viennese pianist who sung back up for The Platters. They were discovered by Tricky Stewart at the age of 11 and went on to form the duo 2XL, releasing a 2007 LP entitled Neighborhood Rapstar.[4] They have also collaborated with musicians such as Bruno Mars, Kesha, Kara Dioguardi, and The Writing Camp, as well as scored major movie and television shows to include CSI:Miami, Four Brothers, Barbershop 2 and Bring it On 2.[5] Myah Marie was a singer at the age of 2 and songwriter from the age of 8.[6] She was contacted by a rep to write songs for the group 2XL while she continued to pursue her own sound, moving to Las Vegas to sing over dance tracks.[6] Her performances prior to My Crazy Girlfriend includes collaborations with Britney Spears. She performed back up vocals for Spears on songs such as Circus, Inside Out, and Work Bitch.[7] Marie also wrote the song Body Ache for Spears' 2013 album Britney Jean.[8] Her voice has also been compared to that of Spears.[7] Cosmo is the daughter of a writer and rapper from the Seattle area and she was exposed to music at an early age. She moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 and began working on dance music.[6]
The four moved into together in an apartment in Hollywood Tower, across the street from Capitol Records.[6] They would work on each other's music but found it difficult to get their music placed. They were evicted from the apartment because they could not afford it and then decided to combine their talents to form the group My Crazy Girlfriend.[6] They eventually signed with Capitol Records in August 2013 and released their first single, Go F**K Yourself, that same year.[2] The song peaked at #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Their second single Crazy Stupid Love was released in March 2014.[9] The group began touring the same month on a promotional tour throughout the United States to promote the song and their first album.[10] The band is currently working in the studio shaping what will be their debut album, scheduled to be released in early 2015 via Capitol Records.
