- Early Tsardom of Russia (16th–17th centuries; e.g., Discovery of Muscovy[1] by Richard Hakluyt or John Milton's A brief History of Moscovia)
- "Muscovy" and "Muscovites" continued to be used (sometimes disparagingly) for "Russia" and "Russians", long after it ceased to be the formal name, and also in times when Moscow was not the capital of Russia[2] (e.g. Disraeli, in a letter to Queen Victoria, proposed "to clear Central Asia of Muscovites").
