Murukan Kattakada (Malayalam: മുരുകന് കാട്ടാകട) is a Malayali poet and lyricist. He was born in Kattakada, a small town near Trivandrum in Kerala. He wrote the lyrics of songs in Malayalam films like Oru Naal Varum,[1] [2][3] Parayan Marannathu, Bhagavan, Chattambinadu[4] and Rathinirvedam. Widely renowned for his well-known poem, “Kannada”, Murukan Kattakada has claimed enormous recognition among Kerala’s youngsters, mostly owing to his own typical style of poetry recital in his manly voice.

He started his career as a teacher, teaching economics for classes Plus 1 and Plus 2 in SMV Government Higher Secondary School, Trivandrum. Presently, he is the principal of G.H.S.S, Aryanad.
