Mundair Kalan, commonly known as Mundair Sharif Syedan (Urdu: منڈیر شریف سیّداں) is a village situated near Sahowala, between Ugoki and Sambrial in the Sialkot District of the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is situated between two canals. The name refers to the Mundair, one of the castes in Hinduism. The word Syedan, used in the local variant of the official name, refers to the Syed respectable family name in Islam. This was because the Syeds migrated here and purchased the land from Hindus and Sikhs. Today the majority of the population of the village is made up by Syeds. The two other neighbouring villages are named Mundair Khurd (منڈیر خُرد) and Mundair Kothey (منڈیر کوٹھے).
History
The Kashmir hills to the north-east are dominant features in the area. The village was known as Mundair Kalan (منڈیر کلاں - Large Mundair). When Salim Ali Shah and his son Abdullah Shah Hazoori emigrated there, he purchased land for agricultural purposes. He also built residential houses in the area.
The village contains shrines to the Sufi mystic Ahmad Hussain Gilani (1899–1961), and his sons and grandson, Muhammad Afzaal Ahmad Hussain Gilani (1926–1998), Iftikhar Ahamd Hussain Gilani (1936–2000) and Shah Hussnain Gilani (1989-1996).
There are two government primary schools (one for boys and other for girls), three private factories and a couple of tuition centers and madāris. The link road, connected to main Wazirabad Road, is called Mundair Syedan Road. The electrical feeder and the post office of the village is named on the name of Ahmad Hussain Gilani as "Mehboob-e-Zaat Feeder" and "Post Office Dargah-e-Mehboob-e-Zaat".
