Mount Grace State Forest is a Massachusetts state forest located in the town of Warwick. The forest is highlighted by 1,625-foot (495 m) Mount Grace, the third highest point in the Commonwealth east of the Connecticut River after Mount Wachusett and Mount Watatic. The forest is bordered by Warwick State Forest to the west and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

History

According to legend, Mount Grace is named for the baby daughter of Mary Rowlandson, a woman captured by Wompanoag warriors during King Philip's War who buried her infant at the foot of the mountain after she perished along the route to Canada.^[3]

Activities and amenities

Forest trails, which include a portion of the 114-mile Metacomet-Monadnock Trail, are used for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing.
The forest also offers picnicking and restricted hunting.^[3]
