Mount Blue State Park is a popular recreation, camping, and swimming area run by the state of Maine located in Franklin County.[2] Its facilities are situated on the shores of Webb Lake in Weld, near Mount Blue, Little Jackson Mountain, and Tumbledown Mountain. The mountains have hiking trails for public use, and there is a small lake, Crater Lake, near the top of Tumbledown and Little Jackson mountains. Mount Blue State Park is owned by Maine and managed by the state Department of Conservation. It is open year round, and has many snowmobiling trails during the winter.
There are boat rentals, free fishing gear rentals, and wood, ice cubes, and ice blocks available for purchase. There is a large shower/bathroom building along with many outhouses scattered all over the campground with workers present from 8am to 11pm. There also is a nature center with hands-on activities. There are 136 camp sites to choose from and all differ in size. Many different trails throughout the campground connect the boat launch and beach areas to the different sections of campsites. Also, there is a beach with bathrooms, a changing area, and a boat launch.
Expansion
In January 2002, the State of Maine announced it would purchase 2,468 acres for $980,000 from a subsidiary of McDonald Investment Company. The funds used to purchase the land came from the Land for Maine’s Future program, the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund and private donations. Prior to the purchase, the park included approximately 5,000 acres of land. The land purchased included a 1,298-foot peak known as Hedgehog Hill.[3]
