The Mount Baker Station is a Sound Transit Central Link light rail station in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle. It opened on July 18, 2009 and is projected to have 3500 daily boardings in 2020 – although this number will increase with the completion of the University Link extension.[1] The station is elevated with side platforms, and is located west of Rainier Ave South at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, south of South Forest Street.
Other transit
A King County Metro bus transit facility near the station, the Mount Baker Transit Center, opened on September 19, 2009.[2] Mount Baker Transit Center is across Rainier Avenue South, approximately ½ block north of the station at South Forest Street, but is not visible from the station. The siting of Mount Baker Transit Center is the subject of much criticism, due to the less than ideal walking distance between the bus stops and the train platforms.[3]
Mount Baker Transit Center provides stops for King County Metro routes 7, 7X, 8, 9, 14, and 48. It is the southern terminus of route 48.
Route 8 duplicates Central Link's route from Rainier Beach Station to Mount Baker Station, but has significantly more stops, providing a local infill service. Route 38 provides local infill service between Mount Baker Station and Beacon Hill Station, serving 3 stops on a steep hill.
