Moulmein-Kallang Group Representation Constituency
Moulmein-Kallang Group Representation Constituency (Traditional Chinese: 摩棉-加冷集選區; Simplified Chinese: 摩棉-加冷集选区) is a four-member Group Representation Constituency, and therefore an electoral district composed of several city suburbs surrounding the Central Area of Singapore.
The GRC was formed in 2011 general election, absorbing most parts of the Jalan Besar GRC and the Moulmein ward of Tanjong Pagar GRC.
Moulmein-Kallang GRC is led by Minister of Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim who is also Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs.
The ward saw a contest in the 2011 general election between the incumbent People's Action Party and a rookie team from the Workers' Party of Singapore. The National Solidarity Party had expressed interest in contesting the constituency, but dropped out to avoid a three-cornered fight.[1] The PAP emerged victor with 44,828 votes or 58.56% of the total ballot for the electoral division. Incidentally, this was the highest vote percentage for the PAP in a Workers' Party contested constituency.
