Motilal Nehru College (MLNC) is one of the largest constituent colleges of the University of Delhi. It is situated on Benito Juarez Marg and is well connected by Delhi's public bus transport system (bus route-727, 764, and 781 being directly offers connectivity to collage and bus route 727 and 764 offering connectivity from nearest AIIMS and Hauj Khas metro stations respectively, further collage is also connected by Satya Niketan bus stop on Mahatma Gandhi road or Ring road as it is called locally by sharing Autorikshaws, currently South Campus metro station is under construction) but it is often that students complain about connectivity of the college as it lies in one corner of the city. It offers courses in science, humanities, arts and commerce disciplines. The Economics and the History departments have recently been renovated and have new faculty. In 2011-2012, Motilal Nehru College record with 100% result in B.A. Prog., B.Com. Hons. and B.SC. Physical Sci. Hons. The campus is completely wi-fi connected. Every year college intake above 1,000 students in various courses. Motilal Nehru Collage completed its golden jubilee in 2014 and a newly constructed air conditioned block for commerce faculty was indeed named Jubilee Block and was innagruated by Sarbananda Sonowal Union minister of sports in NDA government. Motilal Nehru's collage library is biggest library in Delhi university and at present count has 1,07,586 volumes. The library subscribes to about 86 periodicals and magazines of scientific and general interest. The library had an up to date online catalogue of its holding for all users. 21 computer stations with internet facility are also available for library members.

Collage also have a canteen which provides variety of dishes at subsidized rates for students. The canteen is located in beautiful corner of campus with both indoor and outdoor seating.

There is also a medical room in collage adequately equipped to meet any medical emergency. A qualified medical doctor is available in medical room on all working days and this facility is free to students.

A stationery shop also operate within the campus to fulfill the stationary requirements of students at reasonable rates. So also provides xerox facility.

Various societies in college produces a vibrant campus life with year round activities carried out by students. Subject society, Fine arts society, music society, Drama society, dance society throws ocean of opportunity to students.

History

The college is named after freedom fighter Pandit Motilal Nehru. Established in 1964 with only 200 students, it now has about 100 faculty members and 2,000 students. The college was shifted in its new building with sprawling campus, extensive lawns, a large administrative block, library, and well equipped laboratories and air-conditioned computer science laboratory in 1989.

It's acting Principal is Dr B.K.Jain. Dr. Ramesh Sharma, who was the principal till 2010 is a well-known Hindi poet who writes under the pen name 'Divik Ramesh'.

Current college president Divya munjal (2014-15)has played an unexceptional role for the welfare of students and apart from being a extraordinary president she is also a Bsc physics(H) -4th semester topper.

Present cultural society (2014-15) president Hitaishi grover, cultural secretary Chandan munjal and Cultural executive Surangini verman phenomenal work to achieve new heights and their goal is to set high standards for upcoming years.

Library

The college's library is regarded as one of the best among all the colleges of University of Delhi[2]

Timeline

In 2006 the Department of History organized a national seminar/workshop on "Exploring Delhi", which was a huge success, getting recognition from the Prime Minister and the President of India. In 2007 the department produced four first divisioners in the History honours course. The History department has turned out to be one of the known face of the university. In 2007, it was named Antiquity by the department and since then many national seminars and films screenings have been organised. Other well-known faculty in the college are Economics' Faculty and Political Science Faculty which attract students from all over the country. Recently, college introduced a new faculty for the movie screening called Bioscope. A new state-of-art computer lab and seminar room has been constructed by the college authority for the overall development of the students. In the 2007-08 session, the college participated in exchange program with Pusan University of Foreign Studies, Korea which was appreciated by the Delhi Government. As of 2013-14 the college is considered one of the best in Delhi University for Economics and Commerce Subjects.

Cultural activities

The cultural society of the college is a widely acknowledged society within Delhi University with their teams winnings various competitions on national level. In fact the western dance group team of the college has won many competitions in the past few years, including ones held with institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, and Delhi University Nexus. Moti Lal Nehru College was one of the nine colleges which participated in the Sahitya Akadami's poetry competition.The college has been lifting the coveted Chancellor's Trophy for ten years. "AADHAAR -THE DRAMATICS SOCIETY OF THIS INSTITUTION" has created new milestones by taking part in the India's biggest Streetplay event SAHITYA KALA PARISHAD and was the winner of poster display event. With a aim of performing the best in the history of dramatics society. And we begged various prizes. This 2014-15 is one of the glorious year of AADHAAR. other cultural society ELECTRA-DANCE SOCIETY and MALHAR -MUSIC SOCIETY are also doing well in their respective events. Our hopes high as we have some special talent!

Placement Cell

The college has a very active Placement Cell along with the Career Development Center which looks into the placement for its students from all streams. The objective of the college Placement Cell is to help students identify their career goals and provide an edge into the present day competitive job market. The scope of work of Placement Cell extends from organizing Resume Workshops to providing internships to students in various organizations during summer breaks and preparing students for the final placements for the Jobs. Reputed companies such as Fluor India Limited, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Cians Analytics, AON Hewitt, Capital IQ, Grail Research, Protiviti along with other companies have visited the college for recruitment.
