Mostar International Airport (Bosnian: Međunarodni aerodrom Mostar/Међународни аеродром Мостар, Croatian: Međunarodna zračna luka Mostar, (IATA: OMO, ICAO: LQMO)) is an airport near Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated in the village of Ortiješ, 4 NM (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) southeast of Mostar's railway station.[2]

History

Mostar Airport was opened for civilian air traffic in 1965 for domestic flights. Currently, the airport primarily serves for people making the pilgrimage to nearby Međugorje. Before the new airport was built in 1965, Mostar airport was a local airport with large concrete runway used by a local aircraft industry SOKO for testing and delivering war aircrafs, and sometimes by a passenger planes.

In 2012, the company had a twofold increase in traffic, making it the second busiest in the Bosnia and Herzegovina right after the Sarajevo International Airport.

Further investments are planned, which include: renovating and expanding terminal building, expanding the apron (platform), modernising equipment, possible expanding of runway and further education of airport staff in Italy, also building fuel tanks and hangars for private planes and for planes of the Secondary Traffic school of Mostar which uses the airport for flight school and educating students for future work. Mostar International Airport is considering a possible strategic partnership with investors who are interested in this company or, alternatively, a privatization or concession.

The nearest larger international airports are Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia (cca.) 120 kilometres southeast of Mostar, and Sarajevo International Airport 138 kilometres to the north.
