Moses Mbye (born 13 August 1993) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs of the National Rugby League. He primarily plays five-eighth and halfback, but can fill in at hooker, centre and wing.
Playing career
Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Mbye played his junior football for the Noosa Pirates before being signed by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He played for the Bulldogs' NYC team from 2011 to 2013,[1] captaining the team in 2013, before moving on to the Bulldogs' New South Wales Cup team in 2014.
2014
In 11 February 2014, Mbye was selected in the Bulldogs 2014 NRL Auckland Nines squad.[2] On 14 March 2014, Mbye re-signed with the Bulldogs on a 2-year contract worth $250,000.[3] In Round 8 of the 2014 NRL season, Mbye made his NRL debut for the Bulldogs against the Newcastle Knights at centre replacing an injured Tim Lafai in the Bulldogs 16-12 win at ANZ Stadium.[4] During the week leading up to the Bulldogs Grand Final match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, after Bulldogs hooker and captain Michael Ennis was ruled with a foot injury,[5] Mbye and Reni Maitua were in contention to fill in the vacant hooker spot for the Grand Final. On the day in 5 October 2014, Mbye was given the nod to play at hooker over the more experienced Reni Maitua in the Bulldogs 30-6 loss against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, making 44 tackles, the most tackles in the match.[6][7]
Representative career
In 2012 and 2013, Mbye played for the Queensland Under 20s team.[8][9]
In 2013, Mbye played for the Junior Kangaroos.[10]
Personal life
Mbye is of Gambian descent through his father,[11] making him one of the few players in the National Rugby League to be of African descent.
