Morley and Outwood (UK Parliament constituency)

Morley and Outwood is a constituency^{[n 1]} represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since its 2010 creation by the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ed Balls of the Labour Party and of the Co-operative Party.^{[n 2]}

History

This is largely the successor seat to Morley and Rothwell and was first contested in 2010 although it also received Outwood from the abolished seat of Normanton.

Rothwell is in a newly formed constituency of Elmet and Rothwell, and the Leeds suburb of Middleton has been transferred to Leeds Central. The remainder of Normanton was in 2010 divided between Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford and Wakefield.

Boundaries

Parliament approved the recommendation of the Boundary Commission's Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies to create this new ("cross-border") constituency as a consequence of West Yorkshire losing one parliamentary seat following more rapid population increase in other regions.^[2]

The constituency has electoral wards:

• Ardsley and Robin Hood; Morley North; and Morley South in the City of Leeds

• Stanley and Outwood East; and Wrenthorpe and Outwood West in the City of Wakefield^[3]
