Monika Kapil Mohta (Hindi: मोनिका कपिल मोहता, born 19 January 1962) is the Ambassador of India[1] to Poland and Lithuania.[2]

Early life and education

Monika was born in New Delhi to Jai Singh Kapil and Vedna Kapil. After completing her schooling from the Air Force School, she graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University and obtained her Master's degree from the same university. She is married to Dr. Madhup Mohta, also a career diplomat. They have a son and a daughter.[3]

Work experience

Monika presently is the Ambassador of India to Poland and Lithuania since July, 2011. She served as the Director of The Nehru Centre, High Commission of India, London during 2006-2010. Prior to that she was the Deputy Director General of ICCR during 2005-06. She also served as the Director(Gulf) and as a Joint Secretary(Pakistan) under MEA deputation during 2003-2006. During 1997-2003, she was the Director (United Nations – Political), Director(External Publicity) & Deputy Spokesperson.

Between 1985-97, Monika worked in varied positions in the Ministry of External Affairs and other Indian Missions, such as Second Secretary, Embassy of India, Paris/Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO, as an Under Secretary, South Africa, MEA preceded by as an Under Secretary, Foreign Service Institute, Officer on Special Duty (Press Relations) and as the First Secretary, Embassy of India, Kathmandu and First Secretary, Embassy of India, Bangkok
