Monifieth High School, a comprehensive state high school in Monifieth, Angus, Scotland, was founded in 1976. Its current headteacher is Mrs M C McInally, who replaced former Rector Richard Coton in August 2013. The school enrols approximately 1100 pupils from a catchment area including Monifieth, parts of Barnhill, Birkhill and other rural areas of Angus including The Hillbanks area, Liff and Auchterhouse. The Additional Support Needs department takes part in a number of activities throughout the year to enhance the learning of the pupils involved, this included a "21st Century Record of Achievement" and walk the Dundee Marathon.

Exam Results

Monifieth High School has very good exam results in all areas of the school,[1] achieving more than double the average for the number of pupils attaining five or more awards at Higher in 2010.

Facilities

In 2004, the school renovated many of its facilities, including the reception area, new changing rooms, increased singing rooms in the music department, the installation of many interactive whiteboards in classrooms[2] and the renovation of toilet facilities (recently implemented).

House system

The school operates a house system with three houses: Balmossie, Dalhousie and Panmure. The pupils are separated into these for registration classes (in the majority of cases, although there have been some exceptions in senior classes) and they also compete in these houses in sporting events throughout the year.

Uniforms

The official school uniform is as follows: Blazer for all year groups (S5-6 blazer includes braid), White blouse/shirt, smartly worn and buttoned to neck, School tie, knotted to neck, S1 - 4 Blazer without Braid, Plain black v-neck sweater or cardigan with school logo or plain black v-neck or cardigan, Black trousers or skirt (approximately 20 inches in length). Elasticated skirts should not be worn. Likewise leggings/jeggings and all forms of jeans should not be worn. Black shoes (or plain black trainers). It is preferable that outer jackets are of a dark colour. Denim and camouflage jackets should not be worn; large logos should be likewise avoided. From the start of the 2013 academic year, all pupils are expected to wear the new school blazer.[3]
