Career
He started out his career fresh out of high school as a TV commercial model and endorser for Filipino brands Ivy League, Bench, and sporting brand Adidas in the 1990s.
Mondo also acted in TV shows like A.T.V. (Ang Tv) and other ABS CBN shows back in the day. He also had a recurring adversarial role in the GMA Network, Inc show T.G.I.S. with Bobby Andrews and Angelu De Leon.[2]
His movies include Magarap Ka", , Wala Na bang Pag-Ibig and Ako Ba Ang Nasa Puso Mo.[3] He is known to be vocal about his initial reluctance to be an actor and is said to have abandoned shooting dates for the latter two movies in favor of finishing school.
Starting 1997, he moved on to hosting TV shows such as Gameplan TV,[4] where he won the Catholic Mass Media Awards' "Best TV Host" alongside fellow hosts Paolo Bediones and Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Channel V's POPKORN, and Auto Extreme. Mondo had stints as a radio disc jockey at DWKX and NU 107 where he hosted shows like Club Retro and Euro-Rock.[5]
Castro formed independent band The Pin-Up Girls back in 1995 and signed-up with Tacoma, Washington label Know-It-All Records.[6] In 2009, the band was invited by Chris Williams to contribute to Baby Boom Records' compilation CD. The band is now called The Pin-Ups.
Mondo is a business consultant and is associated with known Filipino speakers and consultants Anthony Pangilinan, Ardy Abello, Francis Kong, and Maricel Laxa.[7]
He is a born-again Christian.[8]
Personal life
He is the son of the late broadcaster Reynaldo Castro of DXRJ-FM and ABS CBN and former Supreme Court Director III Frances F. Cruz. He is the brother of former newscaster Liesl Castro, cousin of Rico Yan and musicians Karl Roy and Kenneth Ilagan. Mondo is also the nephew of Angelo Castro Jr and June Keithley. The late Chief Justice Fred Ruiz Castro is his grandfather.
