"Monday Morning" was written by Aguilera, Santi White, John Hill, Dave Taylor, Sam Endicott, and produced by Hill and Switch.[2] It was included on the deluxe version of Bionic.[3] Stephen Thomas Erlewine from AllMusic characterized it as a new wave-pop song,[4] while Becky Bain from Idolator described the track as funk and disco dance.[1] The song is instrumented by funk guitar and hand claps,[5] which, according to Sam Lansky writing for MTV Buzzworthy, "evoke the ’80s with subtlety and charm."[6] Meanwhile, Bain likened the 1970s-inspired funk style on "Monday Morning" to songs by Scissor Sisters.[1] Dan Martin of NME named it a disco number that is similar to Gwen Stefani's song "Borderline".[7] Meanwhile, Nick Levine of Digital Spy wrote that the song "sounds like a great lost cut from No Doubt's Rock Steady."[8] The lyrics of "Monday Morning" sees Aguilera as a "party girl;" at the chorus, Aguilera sings "Hey, forget about your Monday morning, we are never gonna be that boring," over a dance beat.[1]

Reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic named it "a perfect new wave pop."[4] Becky Bain from Idolator labelled "Monday Morning" one of the "unique" songs on Bionic that "have helped push Aguilera in a more ambitious musical direction." Bain also praised the track's lyrics for "presenting Xtina like a party girl, but don’t resort to cursing, thinly veiled euphemisms for dirty sex, or straight-up references to sex like many of the other Bionic tracks."[1] Brad Steirn of MuuMuse called the song "sophisticated" and opined that the appearance of "Monday Morning" on the album's package would make it "more appealing."[9] Upon the release of Bionic, "Monday Morning" debuted at number 22 on the Gaon International Downloads Chart on the chart issue June 20, 2010.[10]
