Monash University Faculty of Art & Design
The Monash University Faculty of Art & Design undertakes teaching and research in the areas of fine arts, multimedia, art theory, industrial design and architecture. Monash is one of few institutions in Australia to offer a range of art and design courses within the one faculty. In fact, it is one of few Australian universities with a Faculty of Art and Design.[1]
In 2008, the Faculty launched a new course in architecture, the first new architecture course in Australia for 30 years,[2] and the only one based in an art and design faculty.
The Faculty is located at Monash University's Caulfield Campus and incorporates:
- Department of Fine Arts
- Department of Multimedia and Digital Arts
- Department of Theory of Art and Design
- Department of Design
- Gippsland Centre for Art and Design
Notable alumni
- Nick Cave (musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, painter, and occasional actor) (did not graduate)
- Dan Whitford (graphic designer and frontman of Cut Copy)
