The Monarchy of Kenya (the Kenyan monarchy) was the system of government in which a hereditary monarch was the sovereign of Kenya from 1963 to 1964. Kenya shared the Sovereign with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Kenya. The royal succession was governed by the English Act of Settlement of 1701.

The monarchy was abolished in 1964, when Kenya became a republic within the Commonwealth.

History

The Monarchy of Kenya was created by the Kenya Independence Act 1963 which combined the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya into the independent sovereign constitutional monarchy of Kenya. Kenya adopted a new constitution in 1964 which abolished the monarchy.
