The Monarchy of Ghana (the Ghanaian monarchy) was the system of government in which a hereditary monarch was the sovereign of Ghana from 1957 to 1960. Ghana shared the Sovereign with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Ghana. The royal succession was governed by the English Act of Settlement of 1701.[1][2]

The monarchy was abolished in 1 July 1960, when Ghana became a republic within the Commonwealth.[1]

The Monarchy of Ghana was created by the Ghana Independence Act 1957 which transformed the British Crown Colony of the Gold Coast into the independent sovereign constitutional monarchy of Ghana.[1][2] Following a referendum on the subject, Ghana adopted a new constitution in 1960 which abolished the monarchy.[1][2]
