Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla Al Thani (Moe Al Thani) (Arabic) الشيخ محمد بن عبدالله آل ثاني (born 16 June 1982), from Qatar's royal family, is the first Qatari man to summit Mount Everest. Based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, he is also a notable businessman and well-known public figure.
Early life
Al Thani is the son of Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani (Sharjah), a member of Qatar's royal family[1] and was raised in Sharjah, UAE, his grandmother's home country. Al Thani graduated from the American University of Sharjah with an MBA and is currently the Northern Emirates Chapter representative for the AUS Alumni Association (AUSAA) Council.[2]
Climbing Mount Everest
On the 22nd May 2013, Al Thani became the first Qatari[3] to reach the summit of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest[4] in Nepal. Al Thani seeks to reach all Seven Summits and he has already conquered Mount Kilimanjaro (twice), Mont Blanc, Mount Vinson, the highest peak of Antarctica, Mount Elbrus the highest point in Europe, Mount Kosciuszko, Australia and South America's Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western hemisphere. During the Everest climb, Al Thani was part of a four-member group called Arabs with Altitude, which included the first Palestinian man, Raed Zidan, the first Saudi woman Raha Moharrak[5] and Iranian, Masoud Mohammed, to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Arabs with Altitude received global media coverage upon their return from Mount Everest.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
His other pursuits include trekking in Nepal, participating in high-speed boating events and taking part in the famous Gumball 3000 rally.[14]
Future climbs
Al Thani next plans to take on the highest mountain peak in the US, Mount McKinley also known as Denali.[15]
Philanthropist
Al Thani climbed as a brand ambassador for Reach Out To Asia,[16][17] a private non-profit organization, based in Doha, Qatar that raises funds to uplift Asia and parts of the Middle East. Al Thani's goal[18] was to raise one million dollars for education projects in Nepal.[19]
