Moengo (sometimes also Mungo) is a town in Suriname, located in the Marowijne district, between Paramaribo and the border town Albina. In former times it was a major centre for the mining and storage of bauxite. The Olympic athlete Tommy Asinga and the visual artist Remy Jungerman were born in Moengo. Situated at the river Cottica, in the eastern part of Suriname, Moengo had 9753 residents in 2004. The town has its own small Airstrip since 1955.
Sports
The town is home to two Surinam first division football clubs: Inter Moengotapoe who play at Ronnie Brunswijkstadion, and Notch who play at Moengo Voetbal Stadion.
