Misty Dawn (born May 15, 1963) is the stage name of a former adult film performer. Dawn worked in pornographic films and videos and also danced as an exotic dancer. She married pornographic actor John Holmes in 1987, and, after his death, she published his autobiography and appeared in several films about his life.

Career

Dawn began making adult films in 1982 at age nineteen and continued through the 80s until about 1991.[1] In 1999, Rose made a return to adult films after a 15-year retirement, serving as a fluffer in The World's Biggest Gang Bang III – The Houston 620.[2] She returned again in 2003 in the film Voyer Vision.[1] Over the course of her career, Dawn worked for "Golden Age" production companies such as Beate Uhse, Caballero Home Video, Filmco Releases, Gourmet Video Collection, VCA Pictures, and VCX.[1]

Appearances

In 1998, she appeared in the documentary, Wadd: The Life & Times of John C. Holmes.[3] Dawn appeared in three other documentaries about Holmes and the adult industry: John Holmes: The Man, the Myth, the Legend (2004), XXXL: The John Holmes Story (2000), and The Other Hollywood (1999).[4]

Other ventures

For a brief time in the mid-1980s, she and Holmes were in business with Bill Amerson in an adult film company known as "Penquin Productions". The couple also lived in Amerson's mansion in the hills of Sherman Oaks. Holmes was godfather to Amerson's children.[5]

Author

In 1998, Dawn using the name, Laurie Holmes, released Holmes autobiography, Porn King: Autobiography of John C. Holmes.[6] In 2012, Porn King was re-published by BearManor Media. The book was revised with added material and photos.[7][8]

Personal life

Dawn was born Laurie Rose in 1963. She was married to the late adult film star John Holmes from 1987 until his death on March 13, 1988. According to Dawn, she first met Holmes in December 1982 on the set for a film they were working on together in San Francisco entitled Marathon. Shortly after Homes was arrested then released from jail in connection with the Wonderland Murders. They remained close for five years and married in 1987 at Las Vegas' Little Chapel of the Flowers. "John kept the marriage secret," Dawn says, "because he was a very private person. Thus, when he died, many acquaintances in the industry and journalists reporting on his death were surprised to learn that we were married."[7]

Holmes stopped making adult films in the early 1980s. According to Dawn, "John thought one porn person in the family was enough. And the AIDS thing was just starting to come out. Nobody had gotten it yet; but it was still in the back of our minds. He thought, ‘Well, if I’m going to take a chance, that’s enough.'"[7]
