Basic game-play
According to the Mistborn Adventure Game Primer "The Mistborn Adventure Game focuses on character-oriented roleplay, with dice rolls reserved for risky maneuvers with high stakes. Even when danger’s afoot and the bones come out, story remains the very heart of the action."[5] The game-play is largely narrative based, however, active game-play is based on rolling dice from a pool of 2-10 six sided dice. The number of dice rolled is determined by a character's abilities. Conflict is resolved in a similar dice rolling fashion.[6]
Character creation
Individual characters can be from the various social classes, such as Noble or Ska, that exist in Scardrial. Even though characters have to conform to the setting to an extent, the backgrounds and personality of characters are largely created by the player's imagination with little constraint. Although the gameplay of Mistborn Adventure is very story driven and narrative based, each character has different Attributes, Standings, Traits, and Powers that influence the active gameplay.[6]

Reception
Shannon Appelcline comments on the game: "Mistborn was a big departure for Crafty because it features a new game system rather than a d20 derivative. The system is intended to be rules-light and narrative-based — creating the basis of what Crafty Games calls their 'indie line.' It features a dice pool that's uniquely resource-based — meaning that you decide how much of the pool to use, saving some dice for things like defense. The heart of the game is (like Sanderson's books) a strong and unique magic system. Mistborn has been well-received and seems to have gotten more retail notice than most of Crafty's other releases to date, likely due to its strong license."[1]:107
