The Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) is the State Convention of Southern Baptists in the state of Missouri. Headquartered in Jefferson City, it works in conjunction with nearly 2,000 churches which are divided into eight regions and 63 Baptist associations[1]
Mission Statement
The current mission statement for the Missouri Baptist Convention is: "Great Commission disciples, in cooperating Great Commission churches, transforming communities with the gospel."[2]
Leadership
Convention Officers
Missouri Baptist churches send messengers to an Annual Meeting to nominate and elect Convention Officers. The 2013-2014 Convention Officers are:
- President: Wesley Hammond
- First Vice President: Dr. Neil Franks
- Second Vice President: Joshua Hedger
- Recording Secretary: David Krueger
Executive Board
The Executive Board is composed of the Convention Officers and Executive Officers elected from the 8 regions of Missouri. The number of Executive Officers is determined by Missouri Baptist church members within a given region,[3] which currently results in 46 Executive Officers.[4]
Executive Director
One of the Primary duties of the Executive Board is to elect the Executive Director.[5] On October 13, 2011, the Executive Board elected Dr. John Yeats as the 20th Executive Director of the Missouri Baptist Convention. In addition to serving as the Executive Director, Dr. Yeats has held the position of Recording Secretary for the Southern Baptist Convention since 1997.[6]
Missouri Baptist Ministries
The Missouri Baptist Convention is involved in many ministries including the following:
- Baptist Builders
- Church Planting
- Cooperative Program
- Disaster Relief
- Evangelism[7]
Funding
Funding is derived primarily through the Cooperative Program. Missouri Baptist churches give a percentage of their budget to the Missouri Baptist Convention, and 62.75% of these funds are used for ministries within Missouri, while 37.25% is passed on to the Southern Baptist Convention for ministries conducted by North American Mission Board and International Mission Board.[8]
