Mississippi Grind is a 2015 American comedy-drama film directed and written by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Sienna Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Analeigh Tipton and Jayson Warner Smith.

Plot

A gambler on a losing streak teams up with a younger gambler, hoping to change his luck.

Production

On August 15, 2012, Jake Gyllenhaal was in talks to join Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on their gambling project; the duo will direct the film Mississippi Grind penned by themselves.[5] On January 7, 2013 Ben Mendelsohn joined the cast of the film, he'll star opposite Gyllenhaal.[3] On February 1, 2013 it was announced that Panorama Media will produce the road trip drama Mississippi Grind, which Electric City Entertainment is also producing.[6] On June 27, 2013, Ryan Reynolds joined the cast of the film to play lead, as a gambler replacing Gyllenhaal in the cast.[1] On November 6, 2013 Sienna Miller set to star the lead role in the film along Reynolds and Mendelsohn, production st to start in January 2014 in New Orleans.[2] On January 8, 2014 there was a casting call for extras, to film some scenes at Mobile Greyhound Park in Mobile.[7] On January 27, 2014 Analeigh Tipton has signed on to join the gambling film.[4]

Filming

The filming of Mississippi Grind began on January 19, 2014 in Mobile, Alabama and it will go on through March 6.[8] The shooting will also be done in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.[7] On February 4, Reynolds and Miller were spotted filming scenes on the Mississippi River.[9] On March 11, 2014, the crews were spotted filming scenes at Mobile Greyhound Park in Mobile.[10]

Release

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2015.[11] On January 28, 2015, A24 Films acquired distribution rights to the film.[12]

Critical reception

Mississippi Grind has generally received positive reception from film critics. The film currently has a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes . Based on 9 reviews, the film scored an average rating of 6.8 out of 10.[13]
