Miss Universe 1988, the 37th Miss Universe Pageant was held at Lin Kou Stadium, Taipei, Taiwan on May 24, 1988. Porntip Nakhirunkanok of Thailand was crowned Miss Universe 1988. She was crowned by Cecilia Bolocco of Chile. 66 contestants competed in this year.
This was the first Miss Universe Pageant not to feature Bob Barker as host. Barker left his hosting duties over a dispute of fur being involved in the pageants, Growing Pains star Alan Thicke was selected to host this pageant.

Host city
Helsinki, Finland was elected as the host city after Bob Barker announced he would serve as host for 1988 pageant. On January 3, 1988, the mayor of Helsinki, Raimo Ilaskivi, announced that his city would not host the 1988 pageant due to critical problems. On January 4, 1988, the day after Helsinki cancelled to host the 1988 pageant, the mayor of Taipei, Hsu Shui-teh, announced that his city would serve as host the 1988 pageant.
